Yoga is the science of managing the oscillating tendencies of the mind. All of us are only too familiar with the wide spectrum through which the mind can move, that too instantaneously. The mind moves faster than light. It takes only a fraction of a second to change our emotions from being happy and joyful to being in a murderous rage and further to sorrow and guilt.
Pratyahara, the fifth limb in the Eightfold path of Raja Yoga is one of the most important components of Yoga. It positions itself at the junction of the Bahiranga and Antaranga Yoga Sadhana. The five human senses are inherently extroverted or outgoing by nature. For progress in Yoga Sadhana, these senses need to be turned inwards. Pratyahara sadhana empowers to do exactly that.
As one moves inwards, one often encounters the demons which had been swept under the carpet in the past. How should one deal with them? What is the scientific method to work out our inner demons without upsetting the balance in our daily lives?
Practicing Pratyahara – Foundation Course provides us an opportunity to learn the systematic and scientific application of the ancient science of Yoga and to imbibe these teachings seamlessly in our lives. This course includes asanas and pranayama to prepare oneself for the pratyahara meditative practices which follow. All these practices lead to a profound state of relaxation, expanded self awareness, inner stability and ability to respond appropriately to situations instead of just reacting to them.
Participants are expected to be conversant with asana and pranayama practices.
The sessions will be led by Dr. Swami Yogapratap Saraswati (M.B.B.S), a poorna sannyasin who has been initiated in the Sannyasa lineage of Swami Sivananda and Swami Satyananda by Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati. As a medical practitioner and a sannyasin, he has been helping aspirants for over 2 decades.
