The journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step
– Ancient Yogic Saying
The crucial part is knowing the first step and taking this step correctly. The first step also decdies the direction of your journey and hence it is essential to decide the direction correctly.
Having introduced ourselves to the SWAN within us, we need to spend some time pondering about our aim in life. Life is a journey and we need to be clear what we are supposed to achieve and also share with others during this journey.
The ultimate goal of humankind is simple and clear – to connect to our source and unfurl the latent abilities which lie untapped within us. The manifestation of this, however, changes from person to person as his or her bundle of karmas and samskaras. This leads to different desires and obligations.
It is for each and everyone of us to discover our individual aims and set up our objectives, targets and milestones.
Clarifying our goals, aims and objectives, we work deeper with the SWAN principles. We already have analysed our SWAN status. We need to understand our goals and resolves of the new year with this perspective and align ourselves accordingly. As either yoga practitioners, yoga aspirants or yoga sadhaks, we know Yoga can help us convert our limitations into abilities. We need to use these yogic tools to work on improving our Strengths, neutralizing and / or converting our Weaknesses into our Strengths, knowing our Needs and finetuning our Ambitions to be in sync with our Aims.
Even after the aims and objectives have been decided upon, they are unmanifest and will remain fantasies so long as we don’t undertake efforts to convert them into manifest realities. This is where Karma – action comes in. We need to know how to perform actions correctly. The spirit of Karma Yoga is essential to be understood correctly for this.
Peethadhishwari Swami Satyasangananda Saraswati explains this very eloquently. She says that if we perform our actions to perfection, the result is bound to follow. In any case, the result of our actions is beyond our purview. So don’t waste too much time and energy eyeing the trophy promised at the end of the race. We unnecessarily harp too much on the end result of our actions. Doing so, we divide our attention and resultantly our energy leading to distraction. Poor quality of actions will never lead to good results.
So focus on the actions and the efforts to attain perfection in action. Leave the rest to the higher powers and rest assured that they are benevolent and compassionate.
Let us come together and make a collective wish –
